[VIDEO] Words that hurt vs. words that help (and what i say to my child when she's anxious, stressed, or worried).
Hi Reader,
I just know we could eliminate SO MANY conflicts and challenges with our kids if we learned to use language that connects and reduces tension - instead of words that disconnect and unnecessarily add to the negativity.
But it's a lot harder in the moment of conflict. I totally recognize this (conscious - not perfect).
It will get easier if we start to peek behind the words we use and consider the messages they're (maybe unintentionally) sending.
Does our language build connection? π€
Here is a video to help you break it down and notice the (sometimes subtle) difference between words that hurt vs. words that help.
β
ππΌ These are ideas that I LIVE and BREATHE because I had some pretty poor communication models growing up.
βHere are three phrases you can say to help your kids feel heard (so they respond better). β¬οΈ
Now, if you're unsure if your language is hurting or helping, notice how you and your kids feel. If everyone seems tense or checked out, see if any of these 4 relationship disruptors are hiding in plain sight. β¬οΈ
π« Blame
π« Shame
π« Judgment
π« Guilt
But again, I know it's not easy. We often need help becoming aware of the unhealthy patterns that govern our thinking and communication.
So, if you haven't watched, here's how we can use words that help (instead of words that hurt (also what I tell my child when she's feeling π³ worried, anxious, or stressed!).
I'm wishing you the BEST week (stay calm, eat chocolate). Thank you for being here. And please remember, it's about being conscious - not perfect!
Talk soon!
Warmly,
