Get OFF the struggle bus ππ»
Reader - Thereβs so much I've wanted to share with you - including my friend Amy's workshop to get you OFF the struggle bus (more on that below), but I haven't been able to write much lately for a couple of reasons:
For 15 years, Los Angeles was my home. It's where we always planned to return - and I did for a hot minute in 2022 before my Dad got sick, and I left again to care for him. I moved there when I was 23. We used to joke that our first neighbor was "Dena from Altadena." Itβs where I really βgrew up," met most of my closest friends, where my daughter was born, and where Teach Through Love was started in a tiny bungalow in the Hollywood Hills. Our former home was maybe 10 miles from the Eaton Fire, and watching our dearest friends and loved ones live through such a terrifying and devastating time has been heavy. I'm just so sad about the massive loss of treasured places, old stomping grounds, wildlife, family homes and belongings, and especially the schools. I know the city I love has an amazing spirit and is fiercely united in supporting each other, and they will rebuild! And I know there are SO many requests, but if youβre looking for legitimate GoFundMe's to support - I want to share some personal links. I went back to working in school this year - and I'm feeling pulled in my heart to share fundraisers for educators, their families, and the schools who have lost everything. Every dollar means so much. These fundraisers are for personal friends and their networks, so you can trust they're legit. βIzzy and Stephanie Thank you so much for considering supporting the people and communities we love so much. Get OFF the Struggle Bus.Now, if you need some support too - my friend, Amy Bryant, has a 3-hour workshop coming up on January 24th for kids with chronic struggles. When Nothing Works: Therapeutic Parenting for Kids on the Never-Ending Struggle Bus (No affiliate links - I'm sharing because I believe so much in Amy's power to help you feel more relaxed and empowered as a parent.) Maybe you've tried all kinds of ways to help your child:
This workshop will help you better understand and embrace your young person's abilities and unique development and learn how to approach life's challenges together in therapeutic, affirming, and inclusive ways. It is neurodiversity and mental health diversity affirming and inclusive. You won't be told to:
Most families have already tried all these things and more and discovered there is no tough love, star chart, reward, or punishment that will change their child's ability to do better. Instead, you'll look at challenges in a new way and learn how and why to do things differently. Young people's brains and bodies are still growing, and some need specific help from adults in order for their lives to be more tolerable, manageable, and hopefully even enjoyable. Learn how the combination of 3 things -
- can help you experience more ease in your relationships and everyday life at home. This 3-hour workshop is appropriate for parents and professionals who live and/or work with children and teens ages 5-18. *CEU available for psychologists, social workers, and mental health professionals. βLearn more and register here.
